Scott Perry, currently the General Manager (GM) for the Washington Wizards, has had a successful career behind the scenes of the NBA. Perry has been a key figure in several NBA organizations and has gained a reputation as a talented executive.

Perry began his career in basketball as a college basketball player at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. After college, he began coaching high school basketball before moving on to a job as an assistant coach at the University of Detroit. He then spent a few years working in the CBA (Continental Basketball Association) before landing his first job in the NBA as a scout for the Detroit Pistons.

Perry quickly moved up the ranks, eventually becoming the Pistons’ Director of Player Personnel. He then spent time with the Seattle SuperSonics and the Orlando Magic in similar roles before being hired as the Assistant GM for the Sacramento Kings in 2013.

During his time with the Kings, Perry was instrumental in helping the team draft several key players, including De’Aaron Fox and Marvin Bagley III. He was also involved in the trade that brought Buddy Hield to Sacramento. In 2017, Perry was hired as the GM of the New York Knicks, where he continued to make impactful moves.

Perry helped bring in players like Julius Randle and Mitchell Robinson, as well as draft picks RJ Barrett and Immanuel Quickley. Despite being fired by the Knicks in 2020, Perry was quickly hired by the Wizards as their VP of Player Personnel before being promoted to GM.

Perry’s ability to find and develop talent has been a key part of his success in the NBA. He has a keen eye for identifying players who can contribute to a team’s success, and his track record speaks for itself. His role in building successful teams in Sacramento and New York, and now in Washington, is evidence of his talent.

One of Perry’s greatest strengths is his ability to build relationships with players, coaches, and other executives. He has a reputation for being a great listener and is known for his ability to connect with people on a personal level. This has helped him build strong working relationships with coaches and players, and has made him a valuable asset to any organization he works with.

Perry’s success in the NBA has not gone unnoticed, and he has been recognized as one of the league’s top executives. He was named the NBA Executive of the Year in 2019 by The Sporting News, and his reputation has only continued to grow since then.

In an industry where success is often measured by wins and losses, Perry’s contributions to the teams he has worked with have been significant. He has helped build successful organizations by identifying and developing talent, building strong relationships, and making savvy moves in the draft and in trades.

As the Wizards continue to rebuild and the Knicks look to return to playoff contention, Perry’s impact on both franchises is clear. He has proven himself to be a valuable asset to any organization and has earned his place among the NBA’s top executives.
